Workshop - Saturday Afternoon (February 12th) Joshua and Casey joined the Seattle-based performance team, Jackson Street Lindy Hoppers, in August of 2003. Together they have been taking Seattle by storm with their unique choreography and ability to break down complicated sequences, recently winning 2nd place at the 2004 Camp Jitterbug Lindy Hop contest and 1st place in the No Holds Barred (Performance) Division at the 2004 Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown (ULHS). A Lindy Hopper since 1998, Joshua has taught classes in Lindy Hop, Charleston and vernacular jazz in Washington, DC, Memphis, and Seattle. His awards include Finalist in the Charleston Challenge at ULHS 2004, 2nd Place in American Showcase at the 2004 Pacific Northwest Lindy Hop Championships (PNWLHC), 1st Place in Strictly Lindy at the 2003 PNWLHC, 3rd Place in Jack and Jill at the 2003 PNWLHC, and 3rd place in Strictly Lindy at the 2002 Swing Fling. Casey has been dancing Lindy Hop since 1998, when she founded the swing dance club at Central Washington University. Casey strives to improve her dancing through practice, teaching, and learning from other instructors. Although she spends long hours practicing choreography, her first love is social dancing. Casey especially enjoys integrating vernacular jazz into her Lindy Hop. She's placed in competitions, including the Pacific Northwest Lindy Hop Championships and 1st place in the North Atlantic Dance Championship Open Jack & Jill. In teaching, Casey and Joshua focus on technique and breaking movement down in different ways to best meet all students' learning styles.br> The workshops will be held at Victoria Dance Connection, 111-2750 Quadra. The Classes Partner Charleston Blowout! - Twenties-style partnered Charleston is enjoying a resurgence, and for good reason. Essential to the study of Lindy Hop is familiarity her “grandpappy,” the Charleston. At the end of this class, you'll have a solid foundation in Charleston partner dynamics and some basic patterns under your belt. Before you know it you’ll not only be interspersing Charleston into your Lindy Hop, you’ll be dancing entire dances doing nothing but Charleston! Moves that make you go "Ooooh" - This class will cover Lindy Hop combinations that will add that extra punctuation to your dancing. We'll mix it up by teaching some of our favorite moves and adding unique stylings to some tried-and-true variations. We will still emphasize lead and follow technique as well as a high level of partner connection. Line dancing that's cool - The Al and Leon Shim Sham - Kill two birds with one stone - expand your jazz movement repertoire while learning fun and easy choreography you can bust out at the next dance. Al Minns and Leon James, two members of Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers, regularly included this version of the Shim Sham in a novelty act that they toured around the country performing in the 1960s. Their choreography uses some familiar movements as well as unique transitions, footworks, and syncopations. Click here to register for the workshop!
